The Diocese has honoured altar servers in a gathering at Frankfield / Grange Parish Centre

On Saturday, a special gathering was held at Frankfield and Grange Parish Centre in Cork to honour and celebrate the altar servers in our Diocese. The gathering brought together altar servers, their parents, priests and the adult volunteers who support them, creating a sense of community and appreciation for this vital ministry.

Sheila Kelleher, Youth Ministry Coordinator, together with a number of young adult volunteers, organised a variety of fun games and activities for the altar servers. Meanwhile, Lorraine Buckley, the Faith Development Coordinator, facilitated an engaging discussion for their parents, priests, and adult volunteers with Bishop Fintan. The conversation focused on how to best encourage and support altar server ministry in parishes and families of parishes.

One of the highlights of the gathering was watching a newly produced video for altar servers created by the Diocese of Cork and Ross. This video aims to serve as a valuable resource for parents and adult volunteers, offering guidance on how to train and form altar servers within their own parishes.

Bishop Fintan expressed his gratitude to the altar servers for their dedication and joyful service. He led a reflective prayer, offering encouragement and spiritual support to the altar servers as they continue their ministry in their home parishes.

The event was a successful celebration of the youth who serve so faithfully, with a renewed focus on fostering their growth and involvement within the Church community.

It was coordinated by the Office for Mission and MInistry and the Coordinator of Youth MInistry and Digital Communications in our diocese.
