The Feast of St Finbarr, Patron of Cork and one of the patrons of the Diocese of Cork and Ross is celebrated this year on Sunday 28th September at Gougane Barra.
This year is particularly significant because St Finbarr’s Oratory in Gougane Barra is the designated place of Jubilee pilgrimage during this Jubilee Year of Hope.
Confessions will be available from 1.30pm. The Rosary will be prayed at 2.30pm. The Principal Celebrant of the Concelebrated Mass at 3pm will be Bishop Fintan Gavin.
It is also possible to receive a special Jubilee indulgence by participating in Gougane Sunday.
One of the spiritual gifts of the Jubilee Year is the opportunity to receive a plenary indulgence, which is a special grace for the forgiveness of temporal punishment due to sin. Pope Francis outlined the three main ways to receive the indulgence conditions for obtaining this indulgence when he inaugurated the Jubilee Year:
Those who attend at Gougane Barra on Sunday 28th and also fulfil these three conditions will receive the special plenary indulgence:
- Sacramental Confession: Being in a state of grace through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
- Reception of the Holy Eucharist.
- Prayer for the Intentions of the Holy Father (e.g., the Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be).
