Livestream Countdown of the 100th anniversary of the Cork Eucharistic Procession
Bishop Fintan is inviting people throughout the Diocese of Cork and Ross to pray a special Novena prayer as part of our preparation for the 100th anniversary of the Eucharistic Procession.
The Novena will be prayed over the nine days leading up to the Feast of Corpus Christi, from Friday, 29th May to Saturday, 6th June.
Copies of the Novena prayer have already been distributed to parishes and will be prayed at Masses across the diocese during these days. Further copies can also be downloaded from the diocesan website.
Each day of the Novena, a short video will be shared at 12 noon on the diocesan website and social media channels.
In these videos, people from across the diocese will lead the Novena prayer and help us to pray together as one diocesan family.
The Novena is a simple way for parishes, families, schools, religious communities and individuals to prepare spiritually for this historic moment in the life of Cork and Ross.
Bishop Fintan said that the 100th anniversary of the Eucharistic Procession is an opportunity for all of us to renew our faith in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and to pray that this celebration will bear fruit in the life of our diocese.
The Novena prayer and daily videos will be available from Friday, 29th May on our website. Watch Bishop Fintan's invite to pray Novena
Cork’s Eucharistic Procession was launched at St. Mary and St. Anne's Cathedral last night
This year marks the 100th year since the first Eucharistic Procession took place through the streets of Cork City - one of the longest-running traditions in the city.
The Diocese of Cork and Ross officially launched the centenary celebrations last night at the Visitors Centre in the Cathedral of Saint Mary and Saint Anne, where Cllr John Sheehan, Deputising for the Lord Mayor of Cork City; Bishop Fintan Gavin, Bishop of Cork and Ross; Sheila Kelleher, Coordinator for Youth Ministry and Jonathan Healy, MC for the launch, addressed over 120 attendees.
In preparation for this milestone, a two-week diocesan mission will take place, accompanied by the visit of the relics of St Carlo Acutis, and 100 hours (for 100 years) of Eucharistic Adoration - marking a century of walking with the Lord in our city and renewing our faith for the future.
This year, the Diocese of Cork and Ross invites you to take part in a truly historic moment:
the 100th anniversary of the Eucharistic Procession in Cork on Sunday 7th June
First held in 1926, the Eucharistic Procession was a wish amongst the people for unity, peace and reconciliation after the Civil War and the War of Independence. They asked Bishop Colahan to have a Eucharistic Procession, bringing Jesus in the Eucharist to the streets of our city. This is an opportunity to witness to our faith while being a part of a living tradition and the history of our city.
One hundred years on, we gather as a diocesan family to unite in prayer and thanksgiving, and to honour Jesus in the Eucharist. The Procession will begin at 3pm at the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne and finish with benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at the Grand Parade.
Eucharistic Procession: Sunday 7 June 2026
