Calls for support for student priests

22 September 2022

The annual collection for the Priesthood Education Fund in the Diocese will be taken up on the weekend of 24th/25th September

The collections funds the costs of training seminarians, permanent deacons and also funds further study of priests of the diocese.

Bishop Fintan has written to parishes asking for their support in prayer and in funds for two new students who have commenced studies for the Diocese of Cork and Ross at Valladolid in Spain and another candidate who will begin studies for the Permanent Diaconate.

The Priesthood Education Fund will finance their studies as well as costs for ongoing training and education of priests.  In the region of €110,000 will be needed to meet these costs in the coming year.  Last year €34,364 was raised in this collection so you are invited to be generous to the Priesthood Education Fund Collection this weekend.

Bishop Fintan has also announced that recently ordained Fr. Ronan Sheehan has been appointed as curate in the Family of Parishes of Ballincollig | Ballinora | Ovens & Farran with effect from Saturday 1st October. Fr. Ronan will reside in Ballincollig Parish.

Fr. Ronan will work with a team of priests including Fr. Liam O hÍcí Co-PP, Fr. Alan O’Leary Co-PP, Fr. Kamil Bachara CC and Fr. John Collins AP.

St. Finbarr pilgrimage - 25 Sep 2022

21 September 2022

Gougane BarraGougane Barra

The annual pilgrimage in honour of St. Finbarr to Gougane Barra will take place on Sunday the 25th of September (the feast day of St. Finbarr).

The rosary will be recited at 2:30pm and Mass will be celebrated by Most Rev. Fintan Gavin, Bishop of Cork and Ross at 3pm.

This year marks the 120th anniversary of the dedication of St. Finbarr’s Oratory, Gougane Barra.  The Oratory was built in 1900, opened in 1901 and dedicated on the 15th of August 1902.  Among those present on that day was Pádraig Pearse who was on a cycling tour of Ireland at the time.

'You are called to lead people, not to yourself, but to God'

At the Ordination as a priest of Fr. Ronan Sheehan in Newcestown on Sept 18th, Bishop Fintan Gavin preached the homily.

We're Not Quite Ready!

09 September 2022

The new website for the Diocese has been launched ahead of time

Not Quite Ready!!!

Although it was planned to publish this new website for the Diocese of Cork & Ross during the month of September the decision has been made to launch it before it is ready.  This is due to a major technical fault with the previous website and it was decided it was better to have an incomplete website rather than none at all.

All of the Parishes are here including the newly formed Families of Parishes.  However, there is plenty more work to do like adding all the Priests.  So could we ask two things...

  1. Please bear with us as we work to recover the information and update this website
  2. If you spot an error or anything that needs correcting, please Email the Webmaster

We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.

But having this hope for what we cannot yet see, we are able to wait for it with persevering confidence  (Romans: 8:25)

Congregations in churches across the Diocese of Cork and Ross are set to hear the same message this weekend in all churches.

Bishop Fintan Gavin, Bishop of Cork and Ross, published a pastoral letter earlier this month which outlines the context and vision for changes being made in parishes in the coming weeks.

Bishop Fintan has asked all the priests across the diocese to read a prepared summery of the pastoral letter at all Masses on the weekend of August 27th/28th.

Irish Catholics voice concerns and hope about Church in document to Synod in Rome

16 August 2022

“Important questions have been set out for deeper reflection and pastoral action at every level of Church life and there will be many more opportunities for people to get involved and help shape this process” – Dr Nicola Brady

Today marks a significant milestone in the synodal process currently underway in the Catholic Church in Ireland with the publication of the national synthesis of the local listening that took place in dioceses and other contexts between October 2021 and May 2022.

This national synthesis has now been submitted to the Synod Secretariat in the Vatican as part of the global synodal process announced by Pope Francis for the Church, to run from 2021 to 2023.
