He revived the solemn procession to St Finbarr’s Oratory at Gougane Barra to mark St. Finbarr’s Day (September 25th). – on the 9th. June 1817, Bishop John Murphy, Bishop of Cork, (1817-1847) issued a Decree of Excomunication on Gougane Barra – cf. A History of the Diocese of Cork – from the penal Era to the Famine, by Evelyn Bolster, p. 238/9.

His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Lucey, Bishop of Cork, presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass. The celebrant was Very Rev. Jeremiah Canon Fehily, P.P., Ss. Peter and Paul’s; the deacon was Very Rev. James Cashman, P.P., Innishannon; sub-deacon was Fr. Michael O’Driscoll, C.C., Kilmurry. Fr. Jeremiah O’Mahony C.C., Cathedral, was master of ceremonies.
