Obituary
The death has occurred at the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork, of Fr Joe Murphy, PP, Ballinhassig. Fr. Murphy has been parish priest of Ballinhassig since July 2001 but has been ill in recent times. He was 61 years and was ordained a priest in June 1970. His brother Fr. Michael is parish priest of Ballyphehane. After serving a short time in St. Patrick’s parish, Cork, he joined the diocesan mission to Peru in 1971. He returned home in 1973 and served for six years in the parish of Upper Mayfield. In 1979, he became curate in Crosshaven and diocesan inspector of religion in schools of the diocese. He was appointed curate in Douglas parish in 1986 and returned to Peru in 1989 where he served until 1997 when he was appointed Administrator of the South Parish. He moved to Ballinhassig in July 2001. May he rest in the peace of the Lord whom he served.

MURPHY Fr JOSEPH PP, Ballinhassig: On August 26, 2007, peacefully, at the Bon Secours Hospital, dear brother of Niall and Fr Michael. Sadly missed by his sister-in-law Maura, nieces Catherine, Christine, Lynda, nephews James and Michael, his aunt Stella Barry, nephew-in-law Rob, grandniece Isabel, Bishop Buckley, priests, parishioners and friends. Reposing at Forde’s Funeral Home, South Gate Bridge. Rosary on this (Monday) evening at 7pm. Removal on tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7pm to Church of Mary Mother of God, Ballygarvan. Concelebrated Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 12 noon at Church of the Most Holy Heart of Mary, Goggins Hill. Funeral afterwards to Ballyheada Churchyard Cemetery. Donations, in lieu, of flowers to the Peruvian Earthquake Fund. May he rest in peace.
