Obituary
The death took place on October 31st,2000, of Fr. Jerome Casey, retired parish priest of Kilmeen and Castleventry parish. Fr. Casey was 90 years of age and was part of the Rossmore community since he went there as parish priest in 1976.
Fr. Casey was born in Skibbereen and was ordained to priesthood in Paris in 1934, having studied at the Irish College in Paris. He also studied in All Hallows College, Dublin. He attended the local secondary school and the North Monastery School in Cork for his secondary education.
His first years as a priest were spent in Rath and the Islands parish, as curate on Cape Clear and later on Sherkin Island.
In January 1937 he was appointed as curate to Aughadown parish, where he ministered until November of the following year when he was appointed to Timoleague parish, based in Clogagh.
In 1949, Fr. Casey was appointed curate across the bay in Courtmacsherry and remained there until Christmas 1963 when he was appointed to Aughadown parish-this time as parish priest.
He moved to Rossmore in 1976 as parish priest of Kilmeen and Castleventry and ministered there until he retired in 1990.
His funeral Mass took place in Rossmore on All Souls’ Day, 2000.
