Following his return to Ireland from France he undertook ministry in the Diocese of Cork. Newspaper reports of his death make reference to the fact that he ministered in Schull during the famine years, however, it has not been possible to confirm this reference.
Whilst a Curate at Courtmacsherry he had been acting as Administrator of Lislee, Lislevane & Courtmacsherry.
The Kilcoe Church refered to in the Place of Burial(below) was replaced in 1905 by the present day Church of the Most Holy Rosary.

His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Fitzgerald, Bishop of Ross, presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass in Kilcoe Church. The celebrant of the Mass was, Very Rev. James O’Sullivan, Adm. Castlehaven; deacon was, Fr. John Fehilly, C.C., Sherkin Island; sub-deacon was, Fr. Eugene Daly, Chaplain, Skibbereen Union. and the master of ceremonies was, Fr. Daniel O’Brien, C.C., Skibbereen
