He was affiliated to the Diocese of Cork in 1855, however, in October/November 1859 he withdrew from the diocese and accepted an appointment at Leamington, England. He was subsequently invited by his friend, Right Rev. Dr. Gould, Bishop of Melbourne, to accept an appointment in the Diocese. Ill-health forced him to retire. After spending sometime in his native city, he finally settled in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
