When Fr. O’Callaghan died (4/11/1919), he was the first priest that died in Skibbereen for the previous 90 years, and the first to buried in the grounds of the Pro-Cathedral.
He took a prominent part in the Gaelic revival movement, and his spendid tenor voice was often heard to advantage at many Irish gatherings. He availed of every opportunity to spread the language, and always recited the prayers before Mass in Irish.
