An tAthair Tadhg had a noted love for the Irish language, which he endowed to many of his students at Farranferris during his teaching career. He founded the scheme whereby students at Farranferris could spend some time in the West Kerry Gaeltacht during the summer among native Irish speakers and learn the language. He was instrumental in the establishment of Bru na Graige – which was built to accommodate the summer students.
He was largely responsible for the rebuilding of the church at Carraig na bhFear which was reopened a year after his death.
During his time in the parish he had the name of the parish changed from the anglicised Carrignavar to the original Irish Carraig na bhFear (The rock of the men).
Gaelscoil an Athair Tadhg O Murchu, in Douglas, Cork, is named after him.
