Bishop Fintan Gavin has provided the following guidance regarding funerals in the Diocese of Cork and Ross during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The government guidance for funerals has been updated to include the following:
- Immediate family members, not exceeding 10 persons, may still attend funeral Masses and burials, provided that social distancing and hand hygiene rules are adhered to.
- This relates to all funerals including those arising out of COVID-19 deaths.
- The number may be restricted further in smaller buildings. Churches may put in place restrictions which respond to specific local circumstances.
For the present, in this diocese, we will continue to follow this guidance supporting our people pastorally and prayerfully.
As we approach Holy Week, the most significant time in our Church year and celebrate the very heart of our faith, let us continue to keep each other and those we minister to at this challenging time in our prayers.
