Mons. Leonard O’Brien RIP

Mons. Leonard O’Brien PE, retired parish priest of Clonakilty peacefully returned to the Lord yesterday evening.

Mons. Leonard served as parish priest of Clonakilty and Vicar General of the Diocese from 2003 until his retirement in 2012.  

He previously served as parish priest in Ballincollig, Administrator of the Cathedral Parish, with the Cork and Ross Peru Mission, as curate in Carrigfada and Clogagh, as chaplain in Clonakilty and Blackrock as well as on temporary mission in the diocese of Savannah Georgia for one year after his ordination in June 1963.

Mons. O’Brien was a native of Skibbereen. In 2010, he authored “Children of the Sun: the Cork Mission to South America” — an account of the diocesan mission on which he served.
