The dates and format of the training programme for new members of Parish Funeral Ministry Teams have been announced by the diocese.
The Parish Funeral Ministry Teams are clergy and lay people who support bereaved families and also lead the prayers and rites of the funeral liturgies in parishes.
The new training course follows the publication of a new Diocesan Funeral Policy by the diocese. This policy calls for each parish to have a Parish Funeral Ministry Team.
Bishop Fintan Gavin has asked parishes which do not already have a team in place to commence recruiting suitable people immediately.
“I trust that you will find compassionate and confidential people with the qualities needed for this sensitive pastoral ministry,” Bishop Fintan said.
The next diocesan formation course for new funeral ministry teams is being offered this Lent. It consists of three nights at a venue central to both city and country parishes and a fourth night in the team’s own parish: This formation course will be held in Ovens Parish Centre on three Wednesdays of 23rd March, 30th March and 6th April from 7.30pm – 9pm each evening.
Priests in the diocese have been sent information for enrolling parishioners in the course.
