Bishop Buckley writes that “Neither the Church nor the State invented marriage and neither can change its nature.”
Most Reverend John Buckley, Bishop of Cork and Ross, has issued a Pastoral Letter which is being made available to parishioners at Masses in the diocese this weekend.
In it, Bishop Buckley asks people to consider seriously the implications of any proposed change to the Constitution. “Marriage is of fundamental importance for children, mothers and fathers and society — all of us need to reflect deeply before changing it,” the bishop writes.
Copies of the pastoral letter are available at all churches of the diocese this weekend. It is also available here as a short PDF document.
