Prayer of the Faithful for Sunday 9 August 2026

19th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Introduction (by the Presider): God comes to us in times of fear and uncertainty, saying, ‘Do not be afraid.’ With confidence, let us bring our prayers before him.

  1. For the Church: that she may be a sign of hope for all who are searching for Christ amid the storms of life. Lord, hear us.
  2. For those who feel overwhelmed by fear, anxiety, or uncertainty: that they may find courage and peace in the presence of the Lord. Lord, hear us.
  3. For all who work at sea, especially sailors, fishing and lifeboat crews: that God may keep them safe and protect their families. Lord, hear us.
  4. For those waiting for exam results: that God may give them peace of mind and confidence as they look to the future. Lord, hear us.
  5. For those who are caring for loved ones at home: that they may be strengthened by God’s grace and supported by our community. Lord, hear us.
  6. For peace in our world: that Christ may calm the storms of violence and give courage to those who work for justice, reconciliation and peace. Lord, hear us.

The Presider prays for the dead: For those who have died (especially N&N): that they may now see the face of Christ and live forever in his peace. Lord, hear us.

Conclusion (by the Presider): Heavenly Father, in every storm you remain close to your people. Hear the prayers we make with confidence through Christ our Lord.

  1. For the Church: that we may bring hope to people who are finding life difficult and help them to know Jesus. Lord, hear us.
  2. For people who are worried, afraid, or finding life difficult: that they may know God's peace and never lose hope. Lord, hear us.
  3. For all who work at sea, especially sailors, fishing and lifeboat crews: that God may keep them safe and watch over their families. Lord, hear us.
  4. For those waiting for exam results: that God may help them to be calm, hopeful, and trust in his loving care. Lord, hear us.
  5. For everyone caring for a loved one at home: that God may give them strength, patience, and the support they need. Lord, hear us.
  6. For peace in our world: that Jesus may help people to stop fighting and inspire everyone to work for peace and forgiveness. Lord, hear us. 

The Presider prays for the dead: For those who have died (especially N&N): that they may live forever with Jesus in heaven. Lord, hear us.

Conclusion (by the Presider): Loving Father, you are always close to us. Hear our prayers and help us to trust in you every day. We make our prayer through Jesus our Lord.
