An Advent Lectio Divina Resource for Our Diocese

Throughout the Year of Prayer, Listening, and Discernment, many expressed a heartfelt longing to deepen their prayer life and to be nourished more fully by the living Word of God. When we pray with Scripture, we learn to recognise God’s voice speaking into the reality of our everyday lives.

As we enter the sacred season of Advent, the Church invites us into a period of watching and waiting, of quiet reflection, and of renewed confidence in God’s faithful promises. In response to your desire to spend more time with God’s Word, we are delighted to offer a new Advent Lectio Divina resource: Waiting in Hope: Listening for God’s Promise Through the Word

Waiting in HopeWaiting in Hope

Lectio Divina is a grace-filled way of encountering Scripture, allowing God to speak personally to our hearts. This resource offers simple reflection prompts on the weekday and Sunday Gospels, along with suggestions for how we might live out that Word each day. Whether Lectio Divina is new to you or already part of your regular prayer, this resource will support you in slowing down, listening attentively, and recognising the voice of Jesus who draws near.

Amid the busyness that often fills the weeks before Christmas, Waiting in Hope provides a gentle, steady rhythm of prayer — suitable for individual use, with family, or within parish groups. Even a few quiet moments with Scripture can transform our waiting into joyful hope and heighten our awareness of God’s presence in daily life.

New reflections will be shared each week. The theme for the First Week of Advent is Listening for God’s promise to awaken our hearts.

We warmly encourage you to make this resource part of your Advent journey. As we listen to the Word and contemplate God’s enduring faithfulness, our hearts are prepared to welcome the One who comes to bring light, peace, and salvation to the world.
