Fr. Jim Good R.I.P.

We regret to announce the death of Reverend Dr. Jim Good. Fr. Jim died in the early hours of Wednesday, March 21st in Cork University Hospital. Fr. Jim was the oldest priest in the Diocese; he was born in 1924 and was ordained a priest on the 20th June 1948.  He would have been 70 years ordained in three months time.
After ordination Fr. Jim went to study theology at Innsbruk in Austria and completed his Doctorate there.  After returning in 1955 lectured at UCC in the Education department and as Lecturer in Medical Ethics. In 1979, he moved to Limerick as part of that role in relation to the teaching programme at Mary Immaculate College.  In 1999, he received an Honorary Doctorate from UCC.
His fifteen years in the Desert in Ludwar in Kenya is well known – he served there from 1970 to 1985. Bishop Lucey was to join him there after his own retirement and until he returned to Cork terminally ill.
Laterally, since retiring and returning to Cork, he assisted in Douglas and faithfully celebrated Mass at weekends in two Nursing Homes.
Fr. Jim had a keen intellect and was blessed in that he was in good health until the past month or so.

His remains will be received at the Church of Saint Columba in Douglas at 8.00pm on Wednesday, March 21st and his Requiem will take place there on Thursday, March 22nd.  At Fr. Jim’s own wishes, his body is being donated to U.C.C. for medical research.

May he rest in the peace of the Lord whom he served as priest and missionary.
