He was a brother of Most Rev. William Clancy, Coadjutor Bishop of Charlestown, (1834-1843).
He was the first Administrator of the Cathedral Parish.

At the time of his appointment as Parish Priest (Glounthaune) in 1862, the present day Parish of Glounthaune was part of the United Parishes of Caherlag & Kilquane.

His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Delany, Bishop of Cork, presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass at the Sacred Heart Church, Glounthaune. The Celebrant of the Mass was, Very Rev. George Sheehan, P.P., St. Patrick’s; deacon was, Fr. Timothy Murphy, Chaplain, Cork Workhouse; subdeadon was, Fr. Thomas Burke, Chaplain, Fever Hospital, and the master of ceremonies were, Fr. Daniel McNamara, C.C. Cathedral and Fr. Henry Reed, Chaplain, Sisters of Mercy.
