Obituary
Fr Denis O’Donoghue, retired parish priest of Crosshaven, died on November 27th, 1998 at The Presbytery, Crosshaven, where he had served for over 12 years. He was 76 years of age.
He was a native of St. Patrick’s Parish, Cork, and was ordained for the Diocese of Cork in 1947.
Following ordination, he ministered in Birmingham Diocese for four years before returning to become chaplain at Mount St. Joseph’s, Cork, until 1951. Next he went to Goleen where he served as curate until 1955. There followed terms as curate in Gurrana-braher (until 1958), and in Bandon (1958-1961).
In 1964 he joined the St. James Missionary Society and went on the missions to Bolivia. His time in South America included a term with the Diocesan Mission in Trujillo, Peru (1967-1969).
After returning home, he served in Cork City as curate in Ss. Peter and Paul’s Parish (1969-1975) and in the Lough Parish (1975-1982).
He was appointed Parish Priest of Ardfield in February 1982 and was appointed to Crosshaven in June 1986. He retired in May 1998.
