Obituary
Fr. Dan McCarthy RIP The death occurred on Saturday March 10th,2002, of Fr. Dan McCarthy, parish of Timoleague. Fr. McCarthy had battled with illness for much of time in Timoleague but leaves an impact that is disproportionate to the length of his stay. A native of Caheragh, Fr. McCarthy was appointed to Timoleague in 1999 and, in spite of ill health, had been organising many projects in the parish, including installing heating systems in the church buildings. Fr. McCarthy was ordained in June 1961 and served for a year in Birmingham diocese, England, before being appointed curate on Cape Clear in 1962. He transferred to Ardfield in 1964 for five years, after which he spent two years in Blackpool, Cork. He returned to West Cork in 1971 as curate of Castlehaven, where he remained until 1975 when he was appointed Chaplain at St. Stephen?s Hospital, Glanmire. In April 1980, he was appointed curate at Glandore and served there until September 1987 when he moved to Clonakilty as curate. Fr. McCarthy was appointed parish priest of Kilmeen and Castleventry in September 1990 and transferred to Timoleague in September 1999. May he rest in peace.
