Appointed Canon of the Cathedral Chapter on the 4/3/1969.
While serving as Chaplain to Greenmount he was requested by his Bishop – Dr. Cohalan, to arrange for the introduction of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland Association to Cork, and he became the first Diocesan Chaplain, and secretary to the Diocesan Scout Council. He held this post for five years (1930 – 1935).
He led the Cork Scout contingent on the memorable Holy Year pilgrimage to Rome in 1934 and was recceived in special audience by Pope Pius X1 on St. Patrick’s Day.
During his appointment at Haulbowline (1935), he also acted as Catholic Chaplain to Spike Island then still in British hands.

Obituary
Most Rev. Dr. Lucey, Bishop of Cork and Ross, was the chief concelebrant of the Requiem Mass. The other concelebrants were, Rt. Rev. Mgr. James Bastible, P.P., St. Patricks; Very Rev.
