St. Finbarr’s Cemetery, Cork
Fr Brian O’Ceallaigh, parish priest of St. Finbarr’s Parish (The South Parish), Cork, died unexpectedly on Monday Aug. 18th, 1997. He was 67 years.
He was a native of St. Joseph’s Parish, Mayfield, Cork.
After ordination in 1954 he ministered for four years in New York. In 1958, he was appointed as chaplain to the Brothers of Charity in Lota while he also taught in the vocational schools and in the diocesan seminary, St. Finbarr’s College, Farranferris, until 1961 when he was appointed to Skibbereen parish as assistant curate.
He was transferred to Ballydehob in 1964 where he served for five years. He served as curate in Kinsale for ten years until 1979 when he was appointed Administrator to St. Finbarr’s South. He was appointed its parish priest in 1985.
During his 16 years at St. Finbarr’s South he maintained an active interest in the world of education and was also a trustee of St. Anne’s Adoption Society.
He was buried in St. Finbarr’s Cemetery on August 20th, 1997.
