Fr. Willie McCarthy CC, Kilmurry, died in a car accident on November 27th near his home in Lissarda.
Fr. McCarthy was a native of Ss Peter and Paul’s parish in Cork city, having been reared on the Western Road, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1966.
His postings as a priest included terms in Southwark diocese in England, as chaplain in Schull, curate in Ballingeary and Ballinhassig. In recent years, he served terms in Dublin Archdiocese and as curate in Blackpool parish before he transferred to Lissarda, in Kilmurry parish.
He had been curate in Lissarda since July 1999. Fr. McCarthy was buried in the church grounds in Cloughduv.
