He was an authority on church music and a very talented interpreter of classical music, and for many years presided at the organ at the Cathedral. During his appointment at St. Patrick’s Hospital, he was also organist at St. Patrick’s Church, Lower Road, Cork.
He was a cousin of the brothers; Fr. Cornelius Cokley (ret.) and Fr. James J. Coakley, C.C., Ahiohill (1937-1939).

His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Lucey, Bishop of Cork presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass at St. Finbarr’s South Church, Cork. The celebrant of the Mass was, Fr. Timothy A. Coffey. C.C., St. Finbarr’s South; deacon was, Fr. Patrick Fullam, C.C., Church of the Immaculate Conception (The Lough); sub-deacon was, Fr. John Crowley, C.F., Collins Barracks, Cork, and Fr. Declan O’Connor, C.C, Turner’s Cross was master of ceremonies.
