Fr. Jeremiah Hyde R.I.P.

The death has occurred of Fr. Jeremiah Hyde. At the age of 94, Fr. Jerry Hyde was the oldest priest in the diocese. A native of Bandon, he was ordained on the 20th June, 1948 and was appointed on temporary mission to the Diocese of Southwark. In 1952, he was appointed curate in Ballinlough Parish where he served until 1963. He also served as curate in he parishes of Murragh, Kinsale, Bantry and in the Cathedral. In 1985, he was appointed Parish Priest of  Kilbrittain. He was appointed Parish Priest of Kinsale in 1998 and Vicar Forane of the Kinsale Deanery, positions that he held until his retirement  until his retirement in July 2005. He then assisted in Kinsale for a while before ultimately retiring to Kinsale Community Hospital a number of years ago.

May he rest in the peace of the Lord he served so faithfully.

Arrangements for his funeral are as follows:

Lying in repose at Gabriel and O’Donovan’s Funeral Home, Kinsale on Tuesday eve from 5pm followed by removal at 6pm to St. John the Baptist Church, Kinsale. Concelebrated Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 2pm. Funeral afterwards to St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Bandon.
