Death of Cork Nun
The death took place recently in Lourdes of Sr Therese Marie O’Connell who spent fifty-seven years as a Poor Clare at the French shrine.
Bishop John Buckley led mourners at the funeral Mass of Sr Therese Marie. News of her death coincided with the Cork & Ross pilgrimage to the French shrine and it enabled a large contingent from her native city to attend her requiem Mass at the Poor Clare monastery at the French shrine.
Mourners from Ireland were led by Bishop John Buckley who presided at the funeral Mass and led the Prayers of Commendation, as well as Bishop Patrick O’Donoghue, priests and pilgrims from Cork & Ross and Fr Robert McCabe of the diocese of Meath.
Tributes have been flowing in for Cork-born Sr Therese Marie who lived out her religious vocation in the heart of Lourdes for over fifty-seven years.
Sr Therese Marie’s family, siblings Dan and Gretta, were unable to make the journey from Cork to Lourdes due to ill health.
