Parish Of Birth
Diocese of Cloyne
Lislee, Lislevane & Courtmacsherry PP – 30/5/1866
Certain revision of parish boundaries would have taken place following the death of Very Rev. John Barry.
Bishop Michael O’Hea, Bishop of Ross (1858-1876) sent on to Rome a petition for the annexation to Timoleague a portion of Lislee, Lislevane & Courtmacsherry parish. This became necessary to enable a second priest to be kept in Timoleague, which, consequent on evictions and emigrations, had become unable to support a second priest. This permit was granted on June 17th 1866 – thereby creating the present-day Parishes of Barryroe and Timoleague.
