He had the distinction of being one of the last priests of the Diocese of Cork to be ordained at the Irish College, Paris, France (The others being; Fr. Richard Butler, C.C., and Very Rev. Michael Lucey)
First Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Parish, Mayfield, when it was erected as a separate parish on the 13/9/1981 by Bishop Michael Murphy.
His brother – Fr. Daniel (Dan) Flynn, also served in the diocese.
He was a nephew of Very Rev. Florence McCarthy, P.P., Aughadown(1926-1963)
On his return from Glasgow his first and second appointment (Sherkin Island & Aughadown) were on loan to the Diocese of Ross.
