“The Fenians of this Town (Skibbereen) on Monday night exceeded by odds all previous attempts at lawlessness in openly burning the effigy of the Rev. Mr. Collins……….”
“The friends of Keane who was recently committed to trial for administering an illegal oath, took it into their foolish hands to retaliate on the Rev. Mr. Collins, who was said to have been instrumental in bringing to light the doings of Keane and his conferes by procuring a so called effigy and burning it in Market Street between nine and ten o’clock in the presence of about a 100 persons…….” – The West Carbery Eagle, Saturday December 17th 1864.
