Obituary
Canon Timothy Crowley, former parish priest of Douglas parish, died on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, June 6th, 1997.
A native of the Lough parish, Cork, he was born in 1917 and was ordained in 1942.
Having completed post-graduate studies at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, in 1944, he was appointed Chaplain to the Ursuline Convent, Blackrock, where he ministered for two years, before being appointed Assistant Curate at the Cathedral.
In 1948, he returned to the national seminary at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, as Professor of Philosophy, a post he held for 23 years, during which time he taught many of the priests of the dioceses.
In 1971, he returned to Cork and was appointed Administrator of the South Parish. He moved to Kinsale as Parish Priest in 1976, the same year in which he was appointed a member of the Cathedral Chapter.
In 1980, he was appointed Parish Priest of Douglas where he ministered until he retired in June 1992.
He was buried on June 9th, in the church grounds at St. Columba’s Church, Douglas.
