What are the parishes saying to the pope?

Parishioners and clergy from 12 parishes in the diocese will create history on Sunday at a meeting in West Cork.

This is part of the response by the diocese to an invitation from Pope Francis.

He has called a synod for 2023 to create a new experience of being a faith community and asked all Catholics and everyone to participate in the preparation.

Bishop Fintan Gavin convened a working group of lay people and clergy to coordinate the diocesan response with a professional facilitator.

They have invited ten people from two groups of randomly selected parishes to attend one of two afternoon discussions on Sundays in May.

The parishes taking part on May 15th are: Ardfield / Rathbarry, Bandon, Bantry, Barryroe, Clonakilty, Dunmanway, Innishannon, Kilmurry,  Mizen Parishes (Schull & Goleen), Skibbereen & Rath and the Islands.

The discussion will be facilitated and the feedback will be written up in a report.

This feedback along with the report from the meeting on May 22nd in the city will be collated with reports from a range of small group meetings which are being held.

There is also an open invitation to everyone to respond to the online questionnaire which has been made available by the diocese at synod.corkandross.org (This is anonymous and confidential.)
