Bishop ‘visits’ those preparing for Confirmation in a video message relayed to schools and homes

Pupils in fifth and six classes across the diocese will this week view and engage with a video message from Bishop Fintan Gavin.

Due to the Covid pandemic the Confirmation ceremonies which will be held between now and the end of April will be celebrated on the bishop’s behalf by the local parish priests.

So while Bishop Fintan cannot be present in person with all the young people and their families he has invited them to link up in a discussion with him using the video message in the classroom and at home.

“I believe that it’s important for all of us to help make a connection between the sacrament and the young peoples’ membership of the wider faith community,” Bishop Fintan said.

“This is why I have prepared a video message for the young people who are being confirmed.  I am sending the link to the schools directly so that it will be viewed in the classroom.   My hope is that families may also take the time to watch it and reflect on it with their son or daughter at home.”

The video message was recorded in Innishannon and features young people from Scoil Eoin who will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation this year.
