He received his early education at the Carmelite College, Kinsale, and later at Carolina Seminary, Cork. Carolina was a house on a seven-acre holding on the McOstrich Estate in the Middle Glanmire Road, Cork, which Fr. William McCullough acquired in January 1881, to serve as a House of Residence for eccleciastical students attending St. Finbarr’s Seminary, Patrick’s Hill, Cork- cf. His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Cohalan, Bishop of Cork, presided at the Office and Solemn Requiem Mass. Ven Archdeacon Michael A. Kelly, P.P., V.F., Kinsale, was the celebrant of the Mass; Fr. Daniel J. O’Donovan, C.C., St. Finbarr’s, was deacon; Fr. John Murphy, C.C., Ballingeary, was sub-deacon; Fr. Richard J. Barrett, C.C., St. Mary’s Cathedral, Cork, was master of ceremonies.
