Obituary
Fr. Thomas McGrath died on 1st October, 1991 at St. Paul’s, Bushmount, Clonakilty.
A native of Ballycotton in East Cork, Fr. McGrath was ordained in Skibbereen in 1936. Since then, he spent all his priestly life in the Diocese of Ross, serving as Chaplain to the Hospital in Clonakilty and as Curate in Sherkin Island, Union Hall and Glandore. In 1948, he returned to Clonakilty as Curate, where he spent 21 years.
In 1969, he was appointed Administrator of Rosscarbery Parish, and four years later, he succeeded the late Fr. Patrick Cahalane as Parish Priest. Fr. McGrath served as Parish Priest of Rosscarbery until his retirement in 1987. Since then he continued to live in Rosscarbery.
In all the parishes where he worked, Fr. McGrath is remembered as a man who was deeply interested in the welfare of people. He will especially be remembered for his love and concern for those who were sick.
