He was an uncle of Mgr. Peter Hill, P.P., Clonakilty(1921-1948)
On the death of the Most Rev. Dr. Fitzgerald, Bishop of Ross, in 1896, he was chosen as Vicar Capitular of the Diocese of Ross.
In May 1894 he introduced the Mercy Sisters from Skibbereen to Rosscarbery, the first Convent being the house recently occupied by Fr. Jeremiah J. O’Hea, C.C.
He also built St. Peter’s Church (1908), Carrigfada. Rosscarbery, Co. Cork.

His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Kelly, Bishop of Ross, presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass. The celebrant of the Mass was, Fr. Peter Hill, P.P., Timoleague (nephew); deacon was, Fr. John Murray, C.C., Clonakilty; sub-deacon was, Fr. Jeremiah O’Driscoll, C.C., Rosscarbery, and the master of ceremonies was, Fr. Thomas Kearney, P.P., Kilmeen.
