He was ordained at the early age of 21.
During the early period of his ministry in Carrigaline he was Chaplain to the prison at Fort Camden, Crosshaven.
Also during his sojourn in Carrigaline he established three schools in the parish, the first of these was built circa 1833 adjacent to St. John the Baptist Church (Carrigaline).
On Trinity Sunday, June 16th 1957 Mass was celebrated for the final time at St. John the Baptist Church. Later that same day the new Church of Our Lady and St. John was blessed and officially opened by Dr. Lucey, Bishop of Cork & Ross.

Obituary
Following his removal to the Parish Church (St. John the Baptist Church) on Thursday 12th, High Mass was celebrated at 10.00 am after which the burial took place in the chapel grounds.
Following the blessing and opening of St. Mary & St. John’s Church (1957), his remains were exhumed from St. John the Baptist Church Grounds and re-interred in the grounds of the new Church.
