He was a brother of Fr. John Burke, C.C. , Rosscarbery (1902-1905) and an uncle of Fr. William Burke, P.P. , Kilmacabea (1975-1981), an a relative of Very Rev. Denis Canon McCarthy, P.P., Ballincollig (1890-1901). At one stage both brothers were simultaneously curates in the Parish of Kilmacabea.
One of his classmate’s at Maynooth was Archbishop Mannix of Melbourne, Australia.

His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Casey, Bishop of Ross, presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass. The celebrant of the Mass was, Fr. William Burke, C.C., Glasgow (nephew); deacon was, Fr. Jerome Casey, C.C., Clogagh; sub-deacon was, Fr. Denis J. Barry, C.C., Bealad, and the master of ceremonies was, Fr. James Fitzpatrick, P.P., Kilmeen.
