Notes
In 1816 when the parish of Uibh Laoire (Inchigeela) became vacant, Bishop Murphy asked of Fr. Holland whether he would be kind enough to accept it, adding that if he did “he would not leave him long in purgatory”. Fr. Holland was to remain in Inchigeela for the remainder of his life.
For an insight into the life and times of Fr. Holland, we would recommend: A History of the Diocese of Cork – the Episcopate of William Delany, 1847 – 1886, by Evelyn Bolster.
He was a brother of Very Rev. John Canon Holland, P.P, Passage West (1847-1858). He was an uncle of Very Rev. Jeremiah Holland who replaced him as Parish Priest of Uibh Laoire (1864-1888) and Very Rev. Timothy Holland, P.P., Innishannon(1867-1895).
