Canon Gus Ahern died in the Hospital of Our Lady of Lourdes in Midleton, to where he had been rushed after suffering a heart attack during the Cork County Championship hurling match between Blackrock and Imokilly at Midleton.
The Funeral Mass of Canon Ahern was celebrated at the Ursuline Convent Church because, since the burning of the parish church, the Ursuline Convent Church was used by the parishioners of Blackrock.
