The Sacrament of Holy Orders is conferred at a ceremony which is also known as Ordination to Priesthood. It is presided over by a bishop.

The location for the Ordination ceremony is decided by the bishop in consultation with the person or people to be ordained. When there is one candidate the ceremony is usually held in his local church.

What is involved?

The ordination ceremony is a Mass with the Rite of Ordination inserted into it between the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Priests of the diocese and other invited clergy concelebrate the Mass with the ordaining bishop.
